1. Who we are
PropTalk (proptalk.com.au) is an independent Brisbane property investment intelligence website. We publish market analysis, suburb research, and finance and strategy content for property investors, and we operate a referral service (“Get Connected”) that can put readers in touch with mortgage brokers and buyers agents.
For the purposes of Australian privacy law, PropTalk is the entity responsible for handling the personal information described in this policy.
2. What information we collect
We collect different information depending on how you interact with the site.
| Source | What’s collected |
|---|---|
| Browsing the site | Standard analytics data via Google Analytics and Google Search Console, including pages viewed, time on site, approximate location (derived from IP address, not precise location), device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site (e.g. search engine, direct link). |
| Get Connected form | Your name, email address, and phone number, along with any details you choose to provide about your property search or finance needs. |
| Yield Calculator and other tools | Inputs you enter (purchase price, rent, interest rate, etc.) are processed in your browser to calculate results. We do not collect or store these inputs on our servers. |
We do not currently operate an email newsletter or marketing list. If that changes, this policy will be updated to describe what we collect and how you can unsubscribe.
3. Why we collect it
- Analytics data helps us understand which content is useful, identify and fix technical issues on the site, and improve what we publish. This data is aggregated and is not used to identify you personally.
- Get Connected information is collected so that, where you’ve asked us to, we can refer you to one of our partner mortgage brokers or buyers agents for the purpose you’ve indicated.
- Calculator inputs are used only to display a result to you in your own browser. We have no access to and do not store this information.
4. The Get Connected form, specifically
When you submit the Get Connected form, you’re asking us to help connect you with a relevant broker or buyers agent partner. Here is exactly what that means in practice:
- We collect the name, email, and phone number you provide.
- Where we have an active, relevant partner for your category of enquiry, we may share your details with that single partner so they can contact you directly. PropTalk operates an exclusive-partner model, meaning we work with one partner per professional category at a time, rather than distributing your details to multiple businesses.
- If we do not currently have an active partner for your enquiry, your information will be retained only for as long as reasonably necessary, and will not be shared with any third party, until either a relevant partner becomes available or you ask us to delete it.
- We do not sell your information to anyone, for any purpose.
Filling out Get Connected means you’re asking to be put in touch with one broker or buyers agent partner. We only pass your details to that one relevant partner, and only for that purpose. We don’t sell your details, and we don’t share them with anyone else.
5. When we share your information
Outside of the Get Connected process described above, we share information in only the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers who help us run the site, such as our website hosting provider (Vercel), our content management system (Sanity), and our analytics providers (Google Analytics, Google Search Console). These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy and security obligations.
- Legal requirements. If we’re required to disclose information by law, for example in response to a valid request from a government or law enforcement body.
- Business transfers. If PropTalk were ever sold, merged, or transferred, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, and you would be notified of any such change via an update to this policy.
We do not share, sell, or rent your personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
6. Analytics and cookies
This site uses Google Analytics and Google Search Console to understand how visitors use the site. These tools use cookies and similar technologies to collect information such as pages visited, time spent on the site, and general geographic location based on IP address.
You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by adjusting your browser’s cookie settings to block third-party cookies. Blocking cookies may affect how some parts of the site function, including the Yield Calculator’s ability to remember your inputs during a session.
We do not currently use cookies for advertising or retargeting purposes.
7. How we store and protect your information
Information submitted through the Get Connected form is stored using reputable third-party infrastructure providers with industry-standard security practices. While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain Get Connected submissions only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purpose for which they were collected, or as required by law, after which they are deleted.
8. Your rights, and how to access or correct your information
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Ask us what personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct any information that is inaccurate or out of date
- Ask us to delete your information, where there is no legal or legitimate business reason for us to continue holding it
- Make a complaint if you believe we have mishandled your personal information
To make any of these requests, contact us using the details below. We’ll respond within a reasonable timeframe, generally within 30 days.
If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
9. Children’s privacy
PropTalk’s content and tools are intended for adults considering property investment decisions. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the site is not directed at users under the age of 18.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example as our tools or partnerships change. The “last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the site after a change to this policy means you accept the updated terms.
